Once again the subject of just how long Sir Alex Ferguson can continue in the managerial chair has erupted.

With Jose Mourinho`s recent inference that he`d like to return to the Premier League causing waves, one consensus of opinion has implied that Jose could well be looking towards the Old Trafford hot-seat as a possible destination.

If so, Sir Alex has, in the red-top press, issued a few words for the ‘Special One` to take heed of, remarking,

“I`m great friends with Jose and I can understand his desire to come back to England.”

“But it`s a difficult one for me to tell him when this position will become available.”

“Should they say ‘Alec you`re too old now, we feel we need a change`, fine. I`ve done my bit here, I`ve had an absolutely fantastic career.”

“First of all it will be my health to determine my situation. I will continue as long as I have the energy I`ve enjoyed all my life.”

“My father retired on his 65th birthday and a year later he was dead. The worst thing you can do is put your slippers on.”

Interestingly, although Sir Alex continues to do the business, could his reluctance to retire see Jose Mourinho take over from Roberto Mancini, at Manchester City?
