United players reaction to striker’s scoring first United goal

|

The Manchester United players and manager were delighted to see Wout Weghorst open his Manchester United account with a well-taken goal in the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Weghorst scored United’s second goal of the match after he reacted the quickest to Antony’s rebounded shot to put United in a good position going into the half-time break, where they were 2-0 up.

Lisandro Martinez, who also scored his first United goal just three days ago, spoke about how pleased he was for the Dutchman to get on the scoresheet for Man United in only his third appearance for the club.

“As a striker, he lives for the goal. And I am happy for him because he is training very well as well. We need it, that confidence, and I am happy he scored today” [via Man Utd].

Erik ten Hag spoke to Sky Sports after the game, and the Dutchman said that he knows what his compatriot is “capable of”.

“I know this is what he is capable of. He has a really good goalscoring record but I think we created some more, really good chances. Also, I think on the right side there was a good action from Antony and he [Wout] was on the rebound. It was a real striker’s goal and therefore we got it” [via Man Utd].
His United team-mates also congratulated him on scoring his first goal for the Reds as captain Harry Maguire replied with two clapping emojis to show his appreciation for the Dutchman’s first strike as a United player and Alejandro Garnacho also replied with a clapping emoji but he added a fire emoji to go alongside it.
