Manchester United`s Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo have been named in the team of the week in The Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League.

The duo tore Newcastle to shreds on Saturday evening; Ronaldo closing the gap on Actim Index leader Emmanuel Adebayor to just 17 points and Rooney climbing 15 places to 20th after the pair bagged a brace apiece at St James` Park.

It was the sixth time this season that Ronaldo had scored 40 or more points in a game – more than any other player in the Actim Index this term – leaving him with a match average score of 23 points, also the best in the Index.

Rooney has beaten the 40-point mark three times during the campaign and averages 21 points per appearance, only surpassed by Ronaldo and Adebayor.

The Arsenal man has played 2246 minutes so far this season, with Ronaldo on the field 221 minutes less, and Rooney playing just 1529 minutes to date.

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player`s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.
