There we were expecting to see our Mexican teenage sensation thrill a nation this afternoon.

Javier Hernandez we thought would be selected by the Mexican manager but we were proven wrong. Instead all we were treated to was an 18 minute cameo appearance when he came on as a substitute for the ex-West Ham player, Guillermo Franco.

Javier, the third generation of his family to play for Mexico, was restricted to one effort, a header he could only direct high and wide. But we were treated to a couple of neat touches that showed this lad has skill in abundance.

Here`s hoping that the next match witnesses some more action from the lad.

As for the result, it finished South Africa 1 Mexico 1
