A return to form, after a spell on the sidelines through injury, put Gary Neville in the frame for a possible international recall.

After all if Jamie Carragher is good enough then Gary Neville must be in the frame.

But, it wasn`t to be and when the provisional list of 30 names was revealed there was no place for Gary.

Recalling the moment the names of the 30 became public knowledge and that his name was not on the list, Gary commented to the media,

“I wouldn`t say I`m overly disappointed not to be in the initial 30-man England World Cup squad.”

“I thought there was a chance I could get in but I was under no illusions how tough it would be, after not being named in the squad for a year.”

“I`m slightly surprised there is only one right-back in the entire squad, but I`m probably more surprised Wes Brown isn`t in the 30.”

And there were we thinking we once had a shortage of left sided players, looks like right back could be the problematic position this time around, especially if Glen Johnson picks up a knock early in the tournament.
