Knowing what had gone on beforehand, at Anfield, United put on a decent performance on Wearside.
If Berbatov had of packed his hooting boots we`d be sat discussing a healthy 3-0 win today, instead we had to hang on for the narrowest of wins, prompting Sir Alex to remark after the game,
“We had an awful lot of chances, but towards the end I was beginning to think they were going to score because 1-0 isn`t a healthy score line.”
“It was just careless finishing. It looked that way because we had some great chances.”
“But the important thing is the three points and the 1-0 victory away from home is always a good result.”
Up on Wearside, it was also noticeable how our support backed the side to the hilt, often out-singing the home support, a fact picked up on by Sir Alex,
“I thought the fans were good and the players were terrific, with good commitment. They enjoyed their game and played good football.”
But, putting allegiances aside, we`re going to have to disagree slightly with one comment,
“It was a stormy match because they were aggressive with their tackles, so we had to be bright and on our game.”
This hack thought that United, on this front, gave as good as they got in what was a game played with total commitment by both sides.
