Sir Alex Ferguson, and Man United fans, has been assured that there is money available should it be wanted.

Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez already arrived before the summer for deals totalling around £20m and plenty of names have been linked with moves to Old Trafford this summer, although none have come off as yet.

David Gill, talking to The Manchester Evening News, has stressed that money is there for Sir Alex if he wants it: ‘The money is there if we believe there is a player who can improve what we believe is a very good squad.

‘The team has been together for a number of years and done very well. In order to improve it a player has to be of a very high quality.’

Gill wouldn’t be drawn on targets but admitted that Sir Alex has been looking but admitted that at the moment the Man United manager is happy with what he has but new arrivals could still happen before the end of the transfer window: ‘Over all I think Sir Alex is very comfortable with the squad composition. That’s not to say something won’t happen, but I think it is a ‘might’, not a ‘will’.

‘We will see what happens over the next six weeks.’

Some fine tweaking of the Man United squad could be beneficial, although Sir Alex will only spend this money he has if he feels he needs to.
