It seems that the arrival of Jose Mourinho, whilst being seen as a huge boost to the fortunes of Manchester United, had a detrimental effect on Paddy McNair.

McNair who, yesterday, joined Sunderland in a transfer deal that also saw another 21-year-old United defender, Donald Love, make the same journey, feels that he had no option other than to seek a move.

Since becoming the new boss at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he intends to restore Manchester United to their former glory.

In order to do so, Jose has spent heavily. Eric Bailly has already been recruited for the centre of the United defence and Jose has made it clear (although he will have to sell players first), he would like to make a further addition to the squad in that position.

Therefore, McNair obviously felt that with the on-going situation, chances to play for the first team were becoming limited.

After signing a four-year deal at Sunderland, a club no managed by somebody McNair knows well, in David Moyes, the Northern Ireland international remarked to the media,

“David Moyes has brought young players through at clubs during his career, so I knew this would be the perfect fit for me. I don`t want to look back.”

And that is the way it should be, as we mentioned yesterday we wish Paddy McNair all the best at his new stomping ground.
