United man nominated for Premier League award

|

David de Gea’s excellent fingertip save against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park has been nominated for the Premier League ‘Save of the Month’ award for January.

The United ‘keeper pulled off a spectacular fingertip full stretch save that looked like it was heading into the top corner from Palace striker Odsonne Edouard.

What made the save even better was that de Gea had to show full concentration because up until that moment Palace did not really test the United keeper.

This is not the first time that the United number 1 has been nominated for the ‘Save of the Month’ award because the Spaniard was nominated for his save against Tim Ream during United’s 2-1 victory over Fulham back in November, just before the World Cup [Vital United].

The Spaniard was nominated for the accolade for his save during United’s 2-1 win in November against Fulham for the November/December Premier League award as he pulled off an excellent save to deny a Tim Ream header that looked like it was heading into the back of the net before de Gea pulled off an excellent save to deny the Fulham man from close range as he turned it over the crossbar.

The United keeper is competing against five other saves made by Premier League goalkeepers as Lukasz Fabianski’s save to deny Leeds United’s Rodrigo was nominated, as well as saves from Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, who stopped Leeds attacker Jack Harrison and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, who used his feel to stop Ryan Sessegnon in the North London derby, which was similar to de Gea’s trademark save with his foot.

The other two saves that has been nominated for the ‘Save of the Month’ award was Kepa Arrizabalaga’s save off Cheick Doucoure to keep Chelsea’s 1-0 lead in tact against the Eagles, and the other save that is in contention to win the award is Nick Pope’s stop to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta’s effort during Newcastle’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
