Two differing media vehicles are reporting, this morning, Manchester United`s continued interest in a Real Madrid defender.

The defender in question is Pepe with the The Express reporting that Manchester United`s hopes of bringing the player to Old Trafford have improved after the Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, might not be given a new deal in the summer.

Pepe is out of contract in the summer and is seeking some security. Talk about a move to China, as reported by The Sun, has stalled since the Chinese Super League introduced a rule relating to the number of foreign players a club can field in a single match.

Pepe has been at Real Madrid for over a decade and to leave would be a real wrench. However, if I were to be brutally honest I`d have to ask why Manchester United are pursuing a player who is now 33-year-of-age.

But, then again, signing a veteran striker in the shape of Zlatan Ibrahimovic has worked out has it not?
