Manchester United`s search for a left-back is, according to one source, set to switch to Portugal.

The good folk of the news vehicle, Metro, are reporting that Manchester United are keen to sign Alex Grimaldi.

Grimaldo, 22-years-of-age, is currently on the books of Benfica, a club who United did business with in the summer when they signed Victor Lindelof.

Our referenced source suggests that United have watched the left-back in action several times and that Jose Mourinho has given the thumbs-up to make a move for the player.

Benfica signed Grimaldo from Barcelona for a fee of ?1.5 million back in December 2015, however his value has risen considerably since then and the Lisbon based club, who United played in the Champions League in midweek, now value the Spanish player at around ?40 million.

Here at Vital Manchester United we`ll keep an eye out for any developments and report back as deemed necessary.
