2 – Whilst playing for Motherwell, McClair was studying mathematics at the University of Glasgow.
3 – McClair was
given the nickname ‘Choccy` during his career, due to the fact his surname rhymes with ‘chocolate éclair`.
4 – There was a large dispute between Celtic and Manchester United over McClair`s transfer fee. Celtic initially wanted £2 million for him, whilst Manchester United offer only £400,000. The fee was finally settled at £850,000 in July 1987.
5 – McClair gained 39 appearances for the Scottish National team between 1983 and 1993. He scored a total of 4 goals.
