United goalkeeper Ben Foster will fly back from Dubai to join the England World Cup squad following Thursday night’s injury to Robert Green.

Foster played for Watford in their promotion push to the Premiership last season.

He has been named on the stand-by list after Liverpool keeper Scott Carson’s promotion to the main squad as a result of Norwich’s Green sustaining a serious groin injury in the England B team’s 2-1 defeat by Belarus.

Foster: ‘I had no idea, I just wasn’t thinking about England, to be honest.

‘The team had been announced and that was it as far as I was concerned.

‘Watford had just won promotion, I was delighted with that and I was looking forward to getting my head down for a couple of weeks.

‘It’s been a crazy season and a crazy last 10 days. We won promotion in the biggest match of my career and then this has come this morning. It’s incredible and I’m really enjoying it.’
