It may all be a ruse to generate some sensational headlines but the mere fact its cast into print might be enough to freak some people out.

The leading tabloid newspaper in this country, The Sun, has printed an article this morning that infers Wayne Rooney could well be on the verge of leaving Manchester United.

The story is based on the foundations that talks about a new contract, for the England striker, have yet to progress to a satisfactory conclusion with the implication that Rooney has requested talks are put on hold after only two sets of preliminary talks.

Now there may be a completely logical reason for this but the tabloid goes on to compare this case with that of David Beckham inferring that anybody who dares to cross Sir Alex is usually the loser.

The inference being that the current war of words over Rooney`s ankle injury could provide the catalyst for Sir Alex to make a stand and end the United career of a player everybody hoped would see his career out at Old Trafford.

Surely it`s just a piece of sensationalist journalism or is there a grain of truth there somewhere?
