Speculation, with the transfer window now open, is abound.

Today, for the second time in less than a week, Manchester United are linked with the acquisition of a Portuguese midfielder.

The midfielder in question being Joao Mario.

The 24-year-old is seen as the natural long-term replacement for Michael Carrick, who has yet to feature since treatment for a heart condition.

The Daily Mail, picking up on something championed by the news vehicle Corriere Della Sport, is suggesting that a player exchange deal could be orchestrated a deal that would see Mario arrive at Old Trafford with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving in the opposite direction to Inter Milan.

However, another news source, Talksport, is reporting that Manchester United have serious rivals for the midfielder.

This particular source is of the view that the French giants, Paris Saint-Germain, are now looking to line up a move for the Portuguese star.

Here at Vital Manchester United we`ll do our best to keep abreast of things and report back as deemed necessary.
