Sir Alex warned his players: it won’t be enough sending the shirts out tonight as United aim to reach the Carling Cup final for the first time since 2006.

The manager is sticking with the youngsters and fringe players as this competition is still not a priority. However, beating Derby at Old Trafford is pretty much expected even from the second string but they have to put in the work.

‘This is no ‘gimme’,’ Fergie opined.

‘Derby County might well be a division below us, a team who, on paper, we should simply brush aside. But as we all know, football doesn’t work like that, especially when they have just appointed a new manager in Nigel Clough.

‘We will have to reach a level, and a good one, if we are to pull back the one-goal deficit from the first leg and reach the final of the Carling Cup.’
