Football as Saint and Greavsie once said can be a funny old game.

Not too long along Sir Alex Ferguson indulged in some mind games with our title rivals, Chelsea, suggesting their squad was ageing.

Now, as the new season approaches, we stand accused of much the same thing with Paul Scoles (35), Ryan Giggs (36), Gary Neville (35) and Edwin van der Sar (39) all in the twilight of their careers.

But one of those golden oldies, Paul Scholes, doesn`t perceive age as a problem remarking,

“We have some very experienced players, but we are not an old squad.”

“It doesn`t really matter what your age is if you are playing games.”

“The hunger and the desire are still there. And all of the players have got that here.”

Hopefully those creaking bones won`t let us down!
