Yesterday our article on the front page questioned why Memphis Depay might prefer a move to Liverpool rather than a move to Manchester United.

However, we did point out that it was an ever-changing scenario and questioned what tomorrow (Thursday) might bring.

Well it appears that the suggestion that the Dutchman would be signing for Liverpool was something of a red herring with it being announced around lunch-time today (Thursday), Memphis Depay has agreed to join Manchester United.

The 21-year-old will undertake a medical next week and will formally become a Manchester United player, in June, when the transfer window opens.

The fee is said to be anywhere between £25-30 million with the deal being for four years. Depay is highly rated and this season scored 21 goals as PSV Eindhoven stormed to the Dutch title.

Talking about his current club the young Dutchman has remarked,

‘I always say; dream, believe, achieve. I was dreaming and believing of becoming the champions of the Eredivisie with PSV and we achieved it.

‘I’m extremely grateful towards PSV and all the fans for believing in me.’

So far, at PSV, Depay, a one-club man, has scored 42 goals in 104 appearances.

Let`s hope he settles into life at Old Trafford quickly and makes an instant impact next season.
