The events of recent days have conspired to see all the media attention deflected towards the England camp.

Whilst it might be slightly wrong to say that the vultures are hovering around a certain striker, column inches are being generated by the thousand as the vultures feed off the remnants of a blighted personal life.

It`s meant that as we approach the second European Qualifying games, attention on the other home nations, with United representation in their squads, has somewhat diminished.

Tonight Scotland, after drawing 0-0 against Lithuania on Friday, enter a group fixture against Liechtenstein knowing that anything other than a win will seriously affect their chances of qualifying for the latter stages of the tournament in 2012.

One player who`ll be desperately keen to ensure the Scottish ambitions of making the 2012 finals stays on track is our midfielder, Darren Fletcher, who incidentally earns his 50th cap tonight!

Ahead of the game Fletcher has commented about getting that crucial win,

“It`s imperative. Anything else is totally disastrous towards qualifying.”

Surely Scotland will get the result they desire, won`t they?
