Earlier this week the renowned surgeon, Dr Richard Steadman, inferred that Owen Hargreaves would play some part in Manchester United`s fixture against West Bromwich Albion this afternoon.

It appears that we were wrong to suspect the statement had been issued with the approval of Sir Alex Ferguson because the boss has come out and blasted the surgeon for suggesting that Owen is fit to resume his United career, remarking about the situation,

“Owen`s not ready. He`s got a calf injury. I pick the team and have been doing for a while.”

“We`re having some difficulties with the doctor in Colorado. It`s not fair to the player the fans and to ourselves to say the player is going to be playing. It`s ridiculous.”

We`ll consider ourselves scolded then shall we!
