With the summer recess, for domestic football, now upon us, all eyes will be focused on the World Cup.

Managers from across Europe will be looking at the players on show with a view to deciding whether they`d be good enough to improve their sides but also weighing up the fact that a decent World Cup can dramatically increase transfer fees.

The smart managers out there will have already identified their targets and will be trying to tie up deals before the players lock themselves away in a World Cup camp.

Now whether Sir Alex falls into the former or latter category, described above, we`re not able to comment on. Sir Alex, and his assistants, have always acted thoroughly professionally when conducting transfers.

In fact we`re not even sure if the targets Sir Alex has in mind will be playing at the 2010 World Cup, some of the best talent of the last decade has never been fortunate enough to participate in a World Cup.

Someone who could easily fit into the category described above is Ryan Giggs. Approaching the veteran stage, but given a contract extension on the back of some admirable performances this season, Ryan is in the perfect position to give us an insight into what will be going on behind the scenes, at Old Trafford, as we prepare for next season.

Talking about such an objective, Ryan had this to say,

“The challenge for us now is to win the title back. I`m sure the manager is relishing that challenge even now and can`t wait for next season to get going. Like the players the manager will go away on holiday and recharge his batteries over the summer.”

“It`s a tough season, it`s long and it takes a lot out of you.”

“But once you`ve had a break, you can`t wait to get back and the manager`s the same.”

He`ll go away, he`ll rest and he`ll be hungry next season, because he won`t have enjoyed the way this season ended.”

“As a player you want challenges and to be motivated, and the manager is the same. He thrives on that, he always has done.”

“A lot of people on the outside are saying ‘we need to get rid of so and so` but the manager has shown he knows best.”

“He doesn`t panic or make rash decisions – and he manages to get it right most times.”

He does Ryan, but this season proved we`re a little light squad-wise, in quality, in some departments compared to those teams that took the major honours this season.

It promises to be an interesting summer.
