The relationship between Arsenal and Manchester United always used to be a frosty one.

Confrontations between the two clubs used to be the norm and on more than one occasion clashes have seen the Football Association become involved.

Therefore a little part of me wishes that Patrice Evra had kept his mouth shut instead of trying to rile Arsenal with the following,

“Arsenal, a big club like that and they have not won a thing for five years? For me that is a crisis and a load of rubbish.”

“To my mind Arsenal are an Academy team. I`ll watch one of their games and enjoy it, but in the end will they win a trophy? That is what people remember you for.”

“People are beguiled by Arsenal`s style, but in the end what do they have to show for it?”

“We could lose to Arsenal next Monday, but what would there be for them in the end/ Nothing – there is no trophy for them.”

“Our real enemies are Chelsea. We look out for their results more than Arsenal`s”

“Maybe I seem arrogant in saying this, but if Manchester United don`t win the title it`s down to Manchester United.”

Oh dear, looks like the blue touch paper has been lit!
