If Sir Alex Ferguson thought assembling a team for the Manchester derby on Wednesday night was a tricky experience, then his team selection for the visit to Villa Park is also troublesome.

First, talking about Wednesday night, Sir Alex had this to say,

“We did well to get a good team on the pitch.”

“The big problems for us were Scholes and Darren Fletcher.”

“Scholes had been on medication for the last two days and hadn`t trained. Darren only trained the morning of the game. He had an ankle injury and showed he was okay.”

Before explaining the gravity of the situation he faces this weekend whereby eight of squad – Rooney, Rafael, Hargreaves, Owen, Anderson, Evra, Scholes and Valencia – could all miss out,

“Patrice has an ankle injury which we`ll assess.”

“Rafael has a dead leg, so it`s not so bad. He`ll miss Saturday but should be ready the following week.”

It promises to be an interesting trip!
