Nice little earner for somebody!

With Ben Foster paraded at a press conference this afternoon, as the new Birmingham City goalkeeper, it turns out that United will not be pocketing all the reputed £6 million fee.

Back in 2005, when Foster came to United from Stoke, the Staffordshire club were sensible enough to negotiate a selling-on clause in the deal. A clause that stipulated they`d receive 30% of any sell-on fee.

In the financially prudent words of their chairman, Peter Coates,

“We always try to cover ourselves in these deals. When we heard talk about Ben possibly going we were hoping United would get as much as possible.”

Suddenly, £4.5 million for what Sir Alex called the best English keeper in the Premier League doesn`t seem that much of a good deal does it!
