With Carlos Tevez busy proving what a thick mercenary he is, there has been plenty of talk off the pitch between the two Manchester clubs during the past week. Their fans told us that they were going to win comfortably and that we are finished.

Well, United responded in style.

‘After everything that went on after the first leg, it was important for us to go out on the pitch and do the talking,” said Darren Fletcher.

“It`s easy to talk but we had to go out and perform and we did that tonight. First half was tight, nip and tuck, but in the second half we really kicked on.

“When Carlos Tevez scored, it took the steam out of us for ten minutes and we were all expecting extra time but then Giggsy put in another great delivery and Wazza`s popped up with an unbelievable winner.

“I think overall we deserved it because we dominated in the second half.’

Absolutely. By the way, how good was our supposedly mediocre midfield in the second 45 minutes? Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes all raised their games significantly and City barely got a look-in though our now usual moment of defensive lapse could have cost us dearly. But it proved to be a temporary setback only as our troops were not to be denied. Well done, everybody!
