With a lack of clear-cut chances last night and with both defences on top, the match, at times, descended into something akin to a midfield battle.

At times it was far from pretty with both sides guilty of giving the ball away on too many occasions.

Michael Carrick, who probably didn`t have the best of games, summed up his version of how the night went, as follows,

“We were disappointed with the performance. We did not create many chances and did not play near our best.”

“We defended pretty well as a unit but the attacking side needs to be better. We`ve an opportunity to put it right at Old Trafford.”

Or as we could say, we live to fight another day but with Marseille having now gone over eight hours in the Champions League without conceding a goal, it looks very much like it will be another tight affair at Old Trafford in a fortnight.
