Not a good day for United yesterday!

Hopes of a fourth consecutive Premier League title slipped away as Wigan capitulated down at Stamford Bridge.

Wayne Rooney saw the Golden Boot slip away as Didier Drogba scored a hat trick to seal things.

And before the match had even started I got sideswiped by an angry mare with a copper sat on his back as the anti-Glazer protest almost got out of hand.

Stood, expectantly or should that be more in hope, in the Stretford End, any remnants of expecting the unexpected were drowned with the news that Nicolas Anelka, a rumoured United target, had scored for Chelsea after only six minutes.

United fought back with goals from Fletcher and Giggs but Chelsea kept apace and the mood started to seriously dip.

Cue the second forty-five minutes, United got their customary own goal, from Higginbotham, (how many is that this season) but down in the deep blue south Chelsea were rattling up a cricket score.

Even the fourth United goal, from Park wasn`t greeted with the customary barrage of noise, but more of a stifled cheer.

As for the post-match lap of honour, in such disappointing circumstances, was it really worth hanging around for?

Roll on next season!
