At a nervy Old Trafford last night, Manchester United edged past their Russian opponents to reach the last eight of the Europa League.

Although Manchester United dominated the play for huge chunks of the game, it looked as if it was going to be one of those days when they just wouldn`t score.

The first half saw Manchester United have three decent opportunities to open the scoring, one saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan shoot wide when put through one-on-one with the Rostov goalkeeper. The other two saw the normally reliable Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit the post.

However, Manchester United did get the breakthrough in the seventieth minute when Juan Mata when he was on hand to finish off after a flick from Ibrahimovic.

But, all credit to FC Rostov who refused to throw in the towel.

The Russian side poured forward in search of a goal that would send the tie into extra time and Manchester United were thankful that Sergio Romero, in the Manchester United goal was on hand to keep out a header from Sardar Azmoun before beating away a dangerous free-kick from Christian Noboa.

Manchester United will find out who their quarter-final opponents are in the draw which will be held at 12:00 today.
