Ending the season with a bland 0-0 against a Hull City side destined for the Championship next season, wasn`t the party we`d all anticipated it might be.

Hull, managed by the former Manchester United stalwart Steve Bruce, had been on a shocking run of form and, believe it or not, had never won a Premier League game in the month of May.

Therefore, you kind of expected that Hull would be full of huff and puff as they tried to engineer a last-day survival bid but that our class would emerge and see us scrape a win.

But it wasn`t like that, United with nothing to play for seemed ready to see the season out and but for some smart decision making by the officials United could have ended the season with another away defeat.

But; if you are in cruise-mode and unable to move up through the gears then it is essential that you finish the game with eleven men; essential because if you don`t the ramifications mean that next season you start off with something akin to a handicap.

Now perhaps someone should have mentioned that to our Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini who, somehow, managed to get himself sent off in a fixture that was, in all effect a dead-rubber for United but will now result in someone starting next season serving a suspension.

No wonder, in his post-match comments Louis van Gall accused the 27-year-old of being unbelievably stupid!
