I am a great fan of Owen Hargreaves. He’s an excellent player, quick, aggressive, intelligent, can play in a range of positions. He could be a very important player for us, just as he was in the 2007/08 season.

However, if reports are to be believed he’s had another setback and is now in Munich for specialist treatment on his knee. He’s unlikely to return before Christmas which means that United are desperately short in central midfield. We have Fletcher and Carrick as the two reliable performers; Anderson is inconsistent and Scholes and Giggs are no longer what they used to be.

All the talk is about how we will replace Ronaldo and Tevez but unfortunately the attacking department is not the major concern. Tevez is no loss, we all know that, and hopefully Rooney, Berba and Owen can step up to compensate for Ronaldo’s goals. However, without proper service, they are doomed. If central midfield isn’t stable and solid and creative enough (which it isn’t at the moment) then the attackers will never be able to play to their full abilities.

So, I believe that unfortunately it’s time to sign someone to replace Hargreaves because it looks unlikely that he’ll ever return to the fold. I do not know who is available and who would be good enough but I trust Fergie to have a list of potential targets. Well, he should go for one of them.
