Manchester United were well represented at Wembley last night.

Three of our current squad were selected by Fabio Capello to start in the clash with Wales that England hoped would propel them towards qualification for the finals next summer.

Chris Smalling retained his place at right back, winning his second cap, whilst Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young were part of the attack Capello hoped would bring the three points to England.

As it turned out, a solitary goal by Ashley Young was enough to give England the three points. Young, finding himself in the box, adjacent to the front post, produced a great finish to a Downing cross to allow England to deflate the Welsh cause.

Although Rooney looked dangerous, his first touch let him down on numerous occasions as Wales persisted with a plan to get as many men behind the ball to frustrate England. Wayne will certainly have better nights in the three lion`s shirt.

Smalling, as was the case on his debut, gave an assured performance defending resolutely and getting forward whenever the opportunity arose. For someone who prefers playing as a centre back, Smalling could well be carving out a career as first choice right-back for club and country!
