With the dust having settled on the 2018 / 2019 season, one important decision has been made that could, I feel, backfire on Manchester United.
When Jose Mourinho was axed, the club turned to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer with the Norwegian fulfilling the role of caretaker manager immaculately.
Although it was hinted that the club would leave it until the end of the season until a decision would be made on who would succeed Jose Mourinho on a permanent basis, the club opted to give Solksjaer the job ahead of their intended schedule.
Following his appointment as the new boss of the club, Solksjaer’s magic wand stopped working and the decent run of form we were dropped away with the result that the club failed to achieve a top-four finish and a place in the Champions League next season.
As a result, I among others began to question whether United had been too hasty in appointing somebody who, in his previous managerial roles hadn’t exactly been a roaring success.
It remains to be seen if Solksjaer is the man for the job or indeed whether the club have made a monumental error, an error from which it could take years to recover.
Interestingly, whilst delving through the Sunday press, this morning, I came across an article in the Daily Mail, where our source covers Sir Alex Ferguson’s current role at the club.
The article goes on to imply that Sir Alex feels disappointed that the club no longer seeks his opinion on the way forward and goes on to suggest that Sir Alex feels that the club should have actively pursued the services of the Tottenham Hotspur boss, Mauricio Pochettino instead of Solksjaer.
Now the Scot was rarely wrong about anything and who am I to argue on this particular occasion?
