After returning from their jaunts around the globe, Manchester United entertain Everton tonight in a testimonial game for Wayne Rooney.

Lurking on the horizon though is the Community Shield clash with Leicester City on Sunday, before; the following weekend, the 2016 / 2017 season kicks off in earnest.

The build-up to the new season has been hampered by the late return of players from the recent Euro 2016 Finals in France and also the fact one of the key preparation games out in China, against Manchester City, fell victim to the deluge of rain that descended upon us, meaning that, so far, Manchester United have only played two pre-season fixtures.

Therefore, as the squad prepares for the fixture tonight, it`s probably no surprise that Jose Mourinho is eyeing it slightly different to any normal testimonial.

Our good friends over a the Daily Star, Click Here, are implying that Jose has told his players to treat the game tonight as if it is a Premier League clash.

Whilst accepting that Mourinho will want to see his squad get off to a good start to the season, thereby setting the tone for a successful campaign, he`ll also be acutely aware that poor preparations this time last year saw his Chelsea charges get off to a bad start to the season from which they never recovered and ultimately cost Mourinho his job!
