Yesterday, against Blackpool, it almost went pear-shaped.

Ian Holloway`s gallant side almost pulled off the improbable by saving their own skins and interrupting the party.

But, a late barrage saw United emerge victorious in a manner that has, quite possibly, been systematic of our season.

At times we`ve been sublime and at times we`ve looked, to put it mildly, a little rocky!

But the title is ours and yesterday, following on from the 42 win over Blackpool, there were the usual joyous scenes as the trophy was returned to Old Trafford.

Speaking after the game, Sir Alex Ferguson had a few words to say to describe how he felt the season had gone, remarking,

“What a season. I do not think there has been a more dramatic season than this one. The players were absolutely brilliant and well done to them,”

“There`s been a lot of great performances. We have won the title more times than anyone else in the country and it`s great for our history. This is a great feat.”

“All I can say is that all teams are different, the game evolves, and at the end of the day we proved to be the best team this season.”

“I would also point out that, though we have not set the world on fire away from home, we have the best home record in my time as manager here.”

“We beat Chelsea, our nearest rivals, four times.”

“Some of our football at home was out of this world so I reckon we must be doing something right.”

And with Barcelona to come, on Saturday night, there`s the distinct possibility that a good season could evolve into a great one!
