When Manchester United decided to pursue the signature of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in the summer, many pundits question whether the ageing Swede would be able to produce the goods in what is considered the toughest league in the world.

As we approach the back-end of the season, the part whereby silverware destinations are defined, Zlatan has shown that he not only has the ability to perform in England but that he still remains one of the most dangerous and prolific strikers in the world.

So far this season, Zlatan has notched up 23 goals, including a hat-trick last night against St Etienne that has virtually guaranteed Manchester United a place in the last-16 of the Europa League.

The hat-trick, so the statisticians amongst us tell us, is the 17th of his distinguished career, although it was his first since joining Manchester United last summer.

But when it comes to scoring against St Etienne, Zlatan seems to score with regularity, the hat-trick last night was the third he`d scored against the French side, prompting Zlatan to remark after the game,

‘Every time I have played against Saint-Etienne, with hard work there has been a couple of goals.

‘I have scored a couple of goals tonight and hopefully I can do the same next week.’

In his distinguished career the Swedish striker has won 11 titles and 3 domestic cups but he`s never won a major European trophy, could this be the year?

You just never know considering the goal-scoring form he is in!
