With England huffing and puffing but struggling to blow the San Marino door down, despite rattling the woodwork, Wembley took a deep breath when Wayne Rooney stepped up to take the penalty that would open the floodgates.

But, as we`ve come to expect on the majority of occasions, Wayne made no mistake blasting the ball home to set England on their way.

In doing so, Wayne became the first England player to score from the spot (excluding penalty shoot-outs) for nine years with Frank Lampard having, quite proficiently we may add, monopolised scoring penalties for England.
