The quest to reach Wembley and make the Champions League Final seems to be an ever-ending mantra.

Sir Alex Ferguson has already spoken about closing the gap between us and those who have won the trophy a couple more times than us and now Wayne Rooney has focused on the man many believe can guide us down that very route.

Wayne, talking about the prolific Robin van Persie, has remarked to the red-top media,

“When you look at teams who have won this competition they`ve all had individuals who can do a bit of magic.”

“Robin is a fantastic player. He has a calmness about him, holds the ball up well and brings others into the play.”

“He`s great for the whole team, he`s our talisman, if you get players around him and players feeding off him, it`s great for all of us.”

“Last season at Arsenal was his best season in the Premier League, scoring wise.”

“He changed to playing on the shoulder more and getting into better goal-scoring positions.”

“He`s a great finisher. He`s strong and can hold the ball up.”

“He`s a fantastic player and he`s a great lad to have around the squad.”

But is he capable of being the catalyst to give us that enormous leap forward towards Champions League glory?
