United’s title hopes were reignited at St. James’ Park but I remain highly sceptical about our chances.

This season will probably kill me. I’ve already made a fool of myself by predicting (in desperation, of course) that Chelsea would not drop another point but they duly did, with a truly terrible performance at Newcastle.

The thing is, I can’t allow myself to hope again. The excitement will be probably too much anyway but if one believes we have no chance to win then one could survive easier.

Try being a neutral. Well, that’s easy. United should win it by a mile as Chelsea were playing dreadful football throughout the season. Add to this the permanent moaning of their manager and there’s a really annoying team.

By the way, Mourinho. The Portuguese stated that the same rules did not apply to us. He reckons they should have been awarded a penalty when Carr appeared to have handled the ball. How cunning. Now he can’t say we are lucky with injuries, he’s coming up with the old ‘refs-are-against-us’ trick. Anybody with any common sense will realise that it should not be taken seriously.

But back to our chances. For those who still dare to believe: it’s not too difficult. We have to win 3 of our 4 matches. The little problem is that 3 of those 4 are away from home. That’s why I do not dare to believe we could win it. Taking the three points from the Goodison and the City of Manchester looks like an impossible task in the current state of the squad… But it’s been a fantastic season nevertheless…
