Ten Hag on youngster’s future

|

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United’s FA Cup fourth round clash against Reading tomorrow night, Erik ten Hag was asked about the future of Brandon Williams, who is reportedly open to going out on loan [Vital United].

Williams missed the start for the season, including United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to injury, however, he was part of the Man United training camp that flew over to Spain during the World Cup, and the United number 33 featured in the mid-season friendlies against Cadiz CF and Real Betis after recovering from injury.

There is a chance that Williams might feature for United against Reading tomorrow night, and the full-back was on the substitute bench for the first leg of Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest, which suggests that the Dutchman is still counting on him.

The United manager was asked if United would consider loaning out the United Academy graduate or would it be worthwhile keeping him at the club, given that the Reds have a lot of fixtures to navigate in the coming weeks.

“I think that also counts for Zidane [Iqbal], and definitely for Brandon,” the manager replied.

“He had a bad injury, he’s on the way back, he was in the pre-season for the restart [in Spain] and now he’s in the squad.

“He was also in the selection for last Wednesday at Forest so he’s really a part of it. It’s also a little bit up to him but I like him, but we have to work with him and see where his developments can go.

“That is also about him, to find the moment where he can deserve his chance and take his chance. But when he wants a loan, we have to talk about that” [via Man Utd].

Williams will be hoping to feature for United when they take on the Royals at Old Trafford tomorrow night, which kicks off at 8pm Uk time.
