From Vital England:

Rio Ferdinand has voiced his opinion that no player is ‘guaranteed’ a place in Fabio Capello’s side, or even the squad for that matter.

This is right, no player should ever be assured of a place even if some are usually ‘closer’ to this than others – but with this almost ‘unwritten place’ sometimes secured complacency can set in, and when this sets in this is when you have problems!

Capello is no respecter of reputations, if you are not performing he will have no qualms against overlooking you, nor will he have any problem pointing the finger at you, again rightly so.

In spite of this the chances are that Ferdinand is an almost ‘dead cert’ to go to South Africa, but he is one of these players that has been known to show a distinct level of complacency over the years for club and country so he might want to take heed of his own advice, as it could well be him missing out if he does not.
