As United venture to the north-east to take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, we`ve been delving into the form and history books.

Here are a few stats we`ve come up for you to mull over:-

1 – The last time Manchester United lost on Sunderland soil was way back in March 1997. Since then we`ve gone on a 12 game unbeaten run whereby we`ve won 9 and drawn 3!

2 – Here at Vital Manchester United we`re expecting goals in this fixture, in the last 13 meetings in the Premier League between the two teams Sunderland have only kept a clean sheet once.

3 – However, the last occasion the two teams met in the Premier League it was Sunderland that triumphed winning at Old Trafford last season, their first victor in 24 attempts.

4 – Last season Sunderland got off to a poor start to their home campaign losing their first 4 fixtures and ended up winning only 5 of their 19 home Premier League games.

5 – Following the opening day defeat, at the hands of Swansea, Manchester United have not lost the opening two fixtures since the first Premier League season of 1992/1993.

6 – On a similar theme, Louis van Gaal has only lost the first two matches of a league campaign just the one whilst in charge of AZ Alkmaar back in 2008/2009.
