The defeat yesterday, at the hands of bottom of the table Blackburn Rovers wasn`t expected.

Instead of sitting on top of the pile we now fully expect to be trailing Manchester City again after they win today.

But, as he wakes up and finds that his 70th birthday has been and gone, it doesn`t appear that Sir Alex has wavered when it comes to what he might deem panic buys in the, now open, January transfer window.

Speaking after the defeat, Sir Alex Ferguson re-iterated his thoughts, commenting,

“Why should you put a sticking plaster on something? We`re quite happy with what we`ve got at the moment.”

“Who is going to sell their best player in January? I don`t see it happening.”

“I would like to get one or two out on loan, particularly the young strikers, but at the moment we don`t need to do anything.”

Well that appears to be that, or does it?
