The big story, splashed across the back pages, this morning relates to a transfer that certainly would create waves.

It would appear that Manchester United have declared an interest in the want-away Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling.

Sterling, not that long ago; expressed a desire to leave Anfield, a desire that doesn`t appear to be waning.

With it being re-iterated, by Real Madrid, Gareth Bale will not be leaving the Spanish giants this summer, it looks as if Louis van Gaal has decided that Sterling is a viable target.

A fee of £40 million is being quoted for the player who is also wanted by our near-neighbours Manchester City.

However if Manchester United were to persuade Liverpool to let Sterling leave (although the words – ‘hands off` – are currently being used and the inference is also being given that no further communication would be welcomed) and the player agreed to come to Old Trafford then he would become the first player to leave Anfield and move to Old Trafford since before World War 2
