Side-lined with an injury, since the close season, Chris Smalling finally made his comeback, on Wednesday evening, over in Portugal.

It`s been a long painful road back for Chris but it would appear that his injury woes, for now, are behind him.

His availability gives Sir Alex Ferguson several more options and Chris could make his first Premier League start, of the season, against Aston Villa this weekend.

Ahead of the game, Chris gave the media an insight into his fight for fitness and his joy at coming back into first team contention, remarking,

“It`s been so long and it`s been frustrating watching from the sidelines. But it`s good to be able to come in and come back with a win as well, so I`m feeling happy. I`ve been watching the Champions League games from the stands, which has been frustrating, so it`s good to be back out there.”

“It was really frustrating for me; especially over the summer having to work hard while the lads were on pre-season and then having a breakdown again. Hopefully, now I can stay free of injuries because I think I`m due that.”

“I`m feeling good. I`ve been able to train over this last week or so and I feel ready. I feel good after the game – so bring on Saturday and Aston Villa.”

Here at Vital Manchester United we`re not sure Sir Alex will make it two in two for Chris but a place on the bench could beckon this Saturday.
