News has filtered through that another of the Manchester United contingent in the England squad has picked up an injury.

With Phil Jones having returned to Manchester, ahead of the trip to Germany, after having his toe broken in an innocuous clash with his United team-mate Chris Smalling, the perpetrator of that injury has himself been crocked.

After playing eighty-four minutes of the 1-0 defeat against Germany, Smalling has withdrawn from the squad with an, as yet, unspecified injury.

Having seen two of his central defence crocked and with Chelsea`s Gary Cahill suspended for the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, Gareth Southgate has been forced to call up a replacement with that being the talented Middlesbrough centre-back Ben Gibson.

Let’s hope Smalling’s injury isn’t too serious.
