Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has stoked the fire – as if it needs stoking – claiming that he will be ‘interested’ to see if Arsenal can fill their 60 000 seater new Emirates stadium if they hit ‘bad spell’.

Sir Alex turned up the heat in the constant war of words with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger by saying:

“I won`t miss Highbury. I think it was a run-down stadium. The pitch was too small for top-class football teams and I think it helped Arsenal in Europe in particular.’

‘Moving to a better stadium will help them in the sense that the games will be better and there will be more room to play. It will be interesting to see what happens when they hit a little bit of a bad spell, whether they`ll still be able to get 60,000 through the gates.’

That will go down well with the Gooners.
