Mikael Silvestre might make his comeback against Manchester City reserves on Thursday after spending long months on the sidelines.

The French defender suffered cruciate ligament injury back in September at Goodison Park and has not played ever since. As he missed the last three months of last season due to another serious injury, many feared for his career.

However, it seems he’s determined to resume playing football and he can do just that on Thursday, according to Sir Alex.

“Mikael’s training with the first-team now and he’s coming along well,” the boss revealed.

“It’s mainly been no-contact stuff but he should play in the next Reserves game, along with Gary Neville.”

The thing is – and it is the same with Gary Neville – we can’t really expect him to make any worthwile contribution to our season, not even as a squad player. After missing so much, when he does reach match fitness the season will be almost over – and we won’t really have games in which to take gambles anyway.
