Sir Alex Ferguson believes José Mourinho is the last person to talk about referees as his team was involved in a lot of events concerning officials.

Mourinho stated United were lucky this season and cited Ronaldo’s dive at the Lane as an example to underline that everything seems to go our way this season.

Fergie has responded to these claims rather angrily and the manner of his reaction may tell us that the last part of the season and the title race has begun.

‘Jose has been coming out with some stuff about us this week and so have Claude Makelele and Michael Ballack,’ said Fergie. ‘I have no problem with that. We have probably done things like that ourselves over the years.

But I think Jose should button his lip until the end of the season because he is the last person to start talking about referees.

‘His football club have been involved in so many things with referees over the last couple of years. It seems to me if you contest against Chelsea and they don’t get their own way, then something happens either [with] referees or players threatened or things like that.

They may want to try and unsettle us but I may have some answers. I may be just beginning. There is plenty to talk about with Jose and referees and Chelsea and referees. We have a big file but we will leave that for another day.’

Threatening with a dossier full of previous events? I had heard of it before… oh no. Surely it won’t be a row like the one between Wenger and Mourinho, you know, the voyeur and all that?

Petty psychological warfare, if you ask me. But of course Fergie is the greatest when it comes to mind games so let’s enjoy it – that’s what we can do as it’s impossible to avoid reading such comments during the final run-in.

Anyway, Mourinho should shut up, Fergie’s right about that.
