Jose Mourinho`s quest to bring a world-class wide player to Old Trafford has seen the club linked with several options.

However, the one-player that continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford is somebody that whilst he has operated as a wide player before is more of a forward who roams across the pitch looking to do damage to the opposition.

The player in question is, of course, Gareth Bale.

Yet again, transfer tittle-tattle is linking the Welsh forward with a possible move to Old Trafford.

Our associates over at the media source, the Metro, have picked up on something printed by the Spanish news vehicle El Confidencial, which suggests Real Madrid would let the player move to Manchester United if they were able to recoup the fee they paid Tottenham Hotspur for his services, a cool £85 million.

Sat here in the editorial chair, I have to admit to having some reservations about the club, reportedly, being interested in Bale.

His recent injury record offers cause for concern as does the fact we`d be paying the same fee Real Madrid did for a player who is now significantly older.

But what`s your opinion on the subject matter?

Is Gareth Bale worth taking a punt on or is it somebody we would have liked a few years ago but not now?
