Flicking through the sports pages first, like most football fans do when they read a daily paper, an interesting little article caught my attention.

It relates to the purchase of season tickets for the 2016 / 2017 season and supplies that season tickets renewals, at Old Trafford, are not at the levels predicted.

Our referenced source suggests that out of the 55,000 season ticket holders Manchester United currently have, only a mere 3,500 have renewed.

To that effect, it`s being suggested that the deadline date for renewing is being put back from May 20th to June 1st.

The official line is that pressure from fan groups has resulted in this shift of the deadline with their being concerns about the expenditure levels required to support the attendance of one, and possibly a second, Wembley trip in the FA Cup.

There`s also the small matter of the two away games at Norwich City and West Ham United also falling in the month of May.

The consensus of opinion is that pushing the deadline back allows for another pay-day to fall due.

But, you have to admire the cheek of our source for using the angle that the severely reduced numbers might be down to the Louis van Gaal factor!
